Technical Assistance for Routine Immunization in Nigeria (TARIN)

WAVA is supporting the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) to introduce the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccines in Nigeria’s routine immunization schedule by strengthening Civil Society Organizations (CSO) capacity for, and engagement in demand generation to promote HPV vaccine acceptance and uptake in the phase 1 states. We are working to ensure CSOs are primed to participate in the HPV vaccine introduction planning processes,  have the technical capacity to promote HPV vaccine awareness, demand generation, and community mobilization, and are positioned to tap into new resources to facilitate their effective support of immunization programs.

Our activities include:

  1. Conducting capacity-building workshops for CSOs to familiarize them with HPV vaccination, the NPHCDA’s plans for introducing the vaccine, the role CSOs can play in raising awareness, creating demand, and mobilizing the communities and schools to improve HPV vaccine acceptance and address parental concerns.
  2. Providing technical support to CSOs to conduct and mainstream HPV demand generation activities into their program portfolio to ensure effective implementation and sustainability.
  3. Strengthening CSO integration at sub-national levels with SERICC/LERICCs to improve coordination and sustainability.
