Nigeria Policy and Advocacy for Sustained HPV Vaccination Project

The Nigeria Policy and Advocacy for Sustained HPV Vaccination Project aimed to equip key stakeholders at the federal, state, and local levels, with critical data and evidence to drive policy and programmatic changes for the sustained delivery of HPV vaccination in the three focus states. WAVA utilized evidence generated from a financial assessment, and an analysis on program implementation challenges, including identified coordination and collaboration needed across federal, state, and local stakeholders, to formulate policy and programmatic recommendations aimed at improving and sustaining the HPV vaccine program delivery in the three focus states. These recommendations were presented to and socialized with key decision-makers and advocacy stakeholders at the national, state, and local government area (LGA) levels. Activities also included amplifying youth voices in vaccine communication and increased political commitment for sustained HPV vaccine delivery.

Objectives

  1. Generate a financial assessment for sustained delivery of HPV vaccination in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos states.
  1. Analyze current gaps and barriers preventing sustained delivery of HPV vaccination in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos states to inform improved and sustained implementation.
  2. Identify and facilitate the necessary coordination and collaboration between federal, state, and local actors to ensure sustained delivery of HPV vaccine in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos states.
  3. Develop and advocate for policy and programmatic recommendations to improve and sustain HPV vaccine delivery in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos states.

WAVA’s Role (Objective 4):

  1. Develop actionable and evidence-based policy guidelines and programmatic recommendations to increase stakeholders’ understanding of the HPV vaccine delivery landscape and support sustained HPV vaccination efforts in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos states.
