WAVA and CoolWazobiaFM talk partnership and commitment to immunization advocacy

wava-coolwazobiafm-talk-partnershipMembers of the WAVA coalition paid a courtesy visit to the management of CoolWazobiaInfo on September 7, 2016 at the station’s headquarters at AIM Center, behind the U.S. Embassy, Central Business District, FCT Abuja to establish a formal relationship and partnership between the two organizations. WAVA made this visit with the aim of enhancing the visibility of immunization advocacy activities to support Nigerians in achieving unhindered access to immunization services. The WAVA team met with the Head of Stations, Mrs Martha Ebele Yough, who manages three radio stations including 96.9 Cool FM, 99.5 Wazobia FM & 95.1 Nigeria Info; and a TV station (WazobiaMax TV – UHF 57).

Speaking at the meeting, Mrs Chika Offor of Vaccines Network for Disease Control (VNDC) began proceedings by explaining the core of the visit which was centred on advancing the health of the population, especially for mothers and babies. She buttressed the importance of immunization for all children in Nigeria together with its attendant health and economic benefits, and further stressed how the media can become a very strong and remarkable ally in the propagation of advocacy messages to the various stakeholders in the health sector, including key political figures, influential persons and the general public. The WAVA coordinator, Ijeoma Michael also highlighted items that CoolWazobiaInfo stood to gain through its collaboration with WAVA, including receiving verified news content such as press statements and news stories from WAVA activities; getting health professionals as resource persons for health shows across its media channels; as well as receiving information on topical health issues of media interest to CoolWazobiaInfo.

The meeting was successful as a partnership was formed between the two organizations. The Head of Stations was very pleased with the level of commitment from WAVA and indicated the prospect of programming on immunization on its media channels.
